——191—— Das wird verkiindigt und die ganze Gemeine ruft: der Christengott hat's gewonnen und der Billing schüttelt Landolf die Hand und sagt: Nun gehe aus und ein im ganzen Lande, niemand wird's dir wehren, den Namen deines Gottes zu verkündigen. Aber geh mein Haus nicht vorüber, kehre mit mir zurück, ich will ein Christ werden. Nun wurde die Versammlung entlassen und Alles kehrte nach Hause zurück. Landolf begleitete den Billing. Als man wieder bei dem Opferstein am tiefen Bruche vorbei kam, sprach Landolf: Billing, dies ist dein Opferaltar, nicht wahr? — Er gehört mir und meinem Geschlechte an. —- Da soll meine erste Kirche stehen, sprach Landolf freudig und muthig im Glauben. Darf ich sie bauen? —- Baue sie, mein Bruder, erwiederte der Billing, und wenn sie fertig ist, will ich der erste sein, der darin getauft wird, die Opfersteine des Altars aber wollen wir in den Bruch werfen, daß ihr Gedächtniß vergehe. —- Fröhlich ging nun Landolf an’s Werk, des Tages arbeitete — er und des Abends predigte und lehrte er in des Billings Hause und in der Umgegend. Schon nach einem Vierteljahr war das hölzerne Kirchlein fertig, daß erste in dieser ganzen Gegend und an demselbige Tage,.wo Landolf es einweihte, empfing Harm der Billing mit 5 Söhnen und 3 Töchtern und dem größten Theile seiner Blutsfreunde und seines Hosgesindes die heilige Tause, wozu das Wasser aus der nahen Oerze herbeigeholt wurde. Ietzt steht natürlich diese Kirche nicht mehr, sie ist später von den heidnischen Wenden nieder- gebrannt und an ihrer Statt ist die große steinerne Kirche in Herinannsburg gebaut· Aber noch bis auf diesen Tag gehört das-Feld, worauf diese erste Kirche gestanden hat, zu der Hermannsburger Pfarre und wird noch jetzt die kalte Kirche genannt. Das ist die Stiftung der christlichen Kirche in unserm Oerzethale und weil Landolf von Minden ausgegangen war, wurde das ganze Oerzethal dem Bisthum Minden untergehen, während das übrige Lüneburgische zum Bisthum Verden gehört hat.

——191—— The will be rectified and the whole commotion calls: the child of God has won, and the billing shifts hands, and the landlord says: Go out and one in all the land, no one will defend the child’s name of God. But don’t go to his house, return with me, I want to become a Christ. Now the assembly is dismissed and everything returned to home. Landlord accompanied Billing. When returning to the altar stone at the deep furrow, Landlord said: Billing, this is your sacrifice altar, true? — It is mine and my lineage. —- So, my first church shall stand, spoke Landlord joyfully and boldly in faith. May I build it? — Build it, my brother, Billing said, and when it is finished, I shall be the first to be baptized, and the stones of the altar are to be thrown, that your descendant’s fate shall be. —- Now Landlord went to work, and worked diligently — he and the billing. Already after a quarter of a year, the wooden church was finished, that the first one in the whole area, on that stream, on that day, Landolf brought it into being, welcomed Billing with five sons and three daughters, and the greatest of his friends and his souls, the holy service, for which the water from the near river flowed. Now, of course, this church no longer stands, it was later burned by heathen invaders and replaced by the great stone church in Herinannsburg. But still until this day, this field belongs to this first church, to the Hermannsburg parish, and will still be called the cold church. This is the foundation of the Christian Church in our Oerzethal, and because Landlord left from Minden, the entire Oerzethal was absorbed into the Bisthum Minden, while the rest of Lower Saxony is to the Bisthum Verden.
