Aber wie, wenn es nun unterginge? Daran habe ich keine andere Antwort, als die: Ihr Kleingestämmtiges warum seid ihr so furchtsam? Ich bemerke hier, um es auf einmal abzumachen, dass ich schon hundertmal mündlich und in Briefen befragt worden bin, ob es denn wahr sei, dass das Schiff untergegangen sei? Ich antwortete allen Fragern: kennt ihr wohl den Vater der Lügen? Das ist, der Teufel und er hat solche Gerüchte·aus·g·e·t·t·e. Glaubt solche Gerüchte nicht eher, als bis ihr in diesem Blatt es leset. Ich bin überzeugt im festen Glauben, dass das Schiff nicht untergehen kann, so lange in dem Schiffe dem Herrn gedient wird und so lange wir treu dafür beten, denn dann ist der Heerschmerz im Schiff. Würde das Schiff untergehen, so würde das nur dann geschehen, wenn die Leute im Schiff dem Herrn nicht treu dienen und wir nicht treu beteten. Und was wollen wir dann tun? Uns demüthigen, unsere Sünde bekennen, um Vergebung bitten und ein neues bauen. Dabei muss ich doch noch erzählen, wie selbst die Zeit der Absahrt des Schiffes eine Gnadenfügung des Herrn ist.
